William D. Merritts

January 23, 1943-August 4, 2025

William D. Merritts, age 82, formerly of Revloc, passed away on Aug. 4, 2025, in Yountville, CA.

Born Jan. 23, 1943, in Johnstown to the late William M. and Anne (Yonko) Merritts.

Survived by brothers: George of Revloc, Peter of Greensburg, and Jack (Victoria) of Lakewood, CO; and niece and nephews: Ann, Travis, Drew, Karl, Daniel, and Andrew. Also survived by special and dear friends and health advocates Michelle Capp of Santa Rosa, CA and Rosalind Merritts of Hollidaysburg.

Bill graduated from Central Cambria High School (Ebensburg, PA) in 1961 and Carnegie Tech (now Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh) in 1966 with a degree in civil engineering. Employment after graduation with Dravo Construction Co. as a civil engineer but then served in the US Navy with an ensign commission upon graduation from Officers Candidate School at the Newport (RI) Naval base. Was then assigned to Naval Intelligence in Washington, DC at the Pentagon.

After his military service, Bill switched career paths to the information technology/computer field. Throughout his long and varied career, he held various technical/marketing/executive positions at the Interior Department, Westat Research, Unisys Corp., Grumman Corp., and retired as Vice President at Fairfax Imaging.

Bill loved to travel and some of the remote places visited were the Marco Polo silk trade route through present day Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan, other foreign countries, and Antarctica. Although he lived most of his adult life in other states, he always cherished his days growing up in PA. He kept in close touch with some of his high school classmates and attended most of his class reunions.

All services will be privately held at the convenience of his family.

Arrangements entrusted to Plank, Stitt and Stevens Funeral Home, Hollidaysburg.

Interment will be at Geeseytown Cemetery, Hollidaysburg, PA.
