Robert J. Long
July 31, 1937 – Dec. 10, 2023

Robert J. Long, 86, Hollidaysburg, passed away Sunday morning at UPMC Altoona after an extended illness. He was born in Summerhill, son of the late Leo and Cecelia Long.
On Aug. 20, 1960, he married Diane M. Daus at St. Mary Catholic Church, Hollidaysburg. She preceded him in death on Dec. 23, 2020.
Surviving are 10 children: Bob (Ann-Marie), Melissa (Chris) Ringkamp, Mike (Nicole), Leo (Tara), Pete (Trudy), Josh (Danyel), Tim (Jess), Carissa (Craig) Baumgartner, Adam (Jessi) and Nick (Shantell) Servello; 25 grandchildren: Christopher, Matthew, Anna (Lexi) Tew, Nathan, Amber (Colby), Jessie (Luke), Jordan, Blaise, Simon, Tori (James), Jake (Alyssa), Emma (Brandon), Dalton, Alex, Mason (Haley), Kolby, Grace, Kailey, Garrett, Wesley, Addison, Jillian, Xavier, Anntwanette and Jaheem; 11 great-grandchildren: Connor, Grace, Levi, Ellia, Micah, Bentley, Henry, Elliot, Brooklyn, JJ and Nixon; two sisters, Dee Schmerbeck and Connie (Dave) McManuels; seven sisters-in-law: Sally Lee, Ginger Cooney, Margie Daus, Kathy (Jim) Tomchick, Janella (Bill) Corl, Becky (Ron) Merilli and Angie DeStefano; and a brother-in-law, John Bismark.
In addition to his wife, Bob was preceded in death by a daughter, Lottie (Long) Servello; two sisters, Carol Bismark and Donna Long; his parents; his parents-in-law, Mike and Marie Daus; and four brothers-in-law: Bill Schmerbeck, Don Lee, Bob Cooney and Jim DeStefano.
Bob graduated in 1955 from Altoona Catholic High School and served in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1959. He was deployed to Germany to serve in Operation Gyroscope. Bob graduated from the Allied School of Technology in Chicago, Ill. in 1960. He worked for 40 years as a lineman for First Energy Corp. (Penelec).
Bob was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Hollidaysburg.
His favorite pastimes were hunting in Pennsylvania, Colorado, North Carolina and Idaho with family and friends, attending his grandchildren’s sporting events, and spending time with family.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 14, 2023, at St. Mary Catholic Church, Hollidaysburg.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 15, 2023, at the church, with Father Alan Thomas officiating.
Committal will be at Greenlawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, if you wish, donations can be made in Bob’s memory, to St. Mary Catholic Church, 312 Clark St., Hollidaysburg, PA 16648.
