Obituary For Patricia L. Smith

Patricia L. “Pat” Smith Sept. 11, 1941 – Nov. 16, 2020

Patricia L. “Pat” Smith, 79, Hollidaysburg, passed away Monday evening at home surrounded by family after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Bedford, daughter of the late Thomas and Mary (Diehl) Hershberger. On May 7, 1958, she married Jerry L. Smith in Hagerstown, MD, who preceded her in death February 20, 1999. She is survived by two sons: Jeffrey L. of Key West and Troy L. (Tamela) of Pittsburgh; a daughter, Cindy L. of Hollidaysburg; three grandchildren: Jocelyn, Mason, and Nicolas; and a brother, Donald Hershberger. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Pamela. Pat was a 1959 graduate of Bedford High School. She retired from the Hollidaysburg School District as a cafeteria worker after 21 ½ years of service, first at the Hollidaysburg Senior High School and then at Frankstown Elementary. She had also worked in the office of Jerry L. Smith Insurance and delivered the Altoona Mirror for 13 years. She also enjoyed babysitting for numerous attorneys, doctors, and neighborhood children. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Hollidaysburg. Pat served on the 1959 Bedford High School Alumni Committee, the Ladies Guild at St. John Catholic Church, Everett, the Hollidaysburg Band Parents, the Ladies Guild of the YMCA on the Ways and Means Committee for two years and then as President. The family would like to thank the UPMC Home Healthcare and Hospice staff for their wonderful care and compassion. Friends will be received from 9:30 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. funeral Mass on Thursday, November 19, 2020 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Hollidaysburg by Father Alan Thomas, where Covid-19 protocols will be observed. Interment will be at Bedford Cemetery. The family requests that donations in memory of Pat be made to The Griffith Family Foundation, 309 Allegheny St., Suite 5, Hollidaysburg, PA 16648 or St. Mary Catholic Church, 312 Clark Street, Hollidaysburg, PA 16648.
