Mary Darlene Humes January 26, 1938 – January 23, 2022
Darlene Humes, 83 formerly of Altoona and Enola, PA, died January 23, 2022 at Country Meadows Retirement Community, Mechanicsburg, PA, where she had been a resident. Darlene was born January 26, 1938 in Altoona, a daughter of the late Blair and Genevieve (Bogle) Cramer. On November 4, 1961 in Lakemont, she married Richard Humes, who preceded her in death in 1993. Darlene was also preceded in death by siblings Shirley Thompson, Pauline Cramer, Robert Cramer, and Linda Davenport. Darlene is survived by children Christopher (Stacey), Daniel, and Dana Shettel (David) all of Enola, PA, granddaughters, Olivia and Paige Humes, several nieces and nephews, and a dear sister-in-law Helen Cramer. She retired as a Certified Nursing Assistant for Garvey Manor Nursing Home Hollidaysburg in 2009 where she faithfully cared for residents for 36 years. Darlene’s passion in life was being a caregiver, selflessly putting the needs of others before her own needs. Darlene enjoyed watching Penn State and Pittsburgh Steelers football, as well as Pittsburgh Pirates baseball. She also enjoyed shopping, crafting, reading, traveling to the beach, and working word puzzles. The family wishes to thank the staff of Country Meadows and Residential Hospice Care for taking such great care of Darlene in her final years. Friends will be received from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., Friday, January 28, 2022 at St John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 344 Baynton Avenue, Altoona, PA 16602, where a funeral Mass will immediately follow at 11am. Committal will take place at Presbyterian Cemetery, Hollidaysburg. The family has asked that masks be worn while visiting or attending services for Darlene. The family asks that memorial contributions be made to The Alzheimer’s Association of Greater Pennsylvania or to the Humane Society of Harrisburg in Darlene’s memory.
