Leonard R. Hummel, 92, Hollidaysburg, passed away Saturday evening at Gulf Coast Medical Center in Fort Myers, Florida.
He was born in Bellwood, son of the late, Clyde R. and Verna M. (Miller) Hummel.
He was twice married; first to Barbara Merritts who passed away Dec. 13, 2020. He married Nancy (Campbell) Sager July 3, 1964, in Winchester, VA, who preceded him in death May 30, 2017.
Surviving are his stepson, Dane Sager (Kim) of Hollidaysburg; daughter, Valerie Vandrew of Altoona; brother, Mickey Hummel (Joni) of Erwin, NC; five grandchildren: Karli Monberg (Jason), Rachel Sales (Tony), Anna Cobarruvias (Nick), Rachael Ozereko (John), and Danny Vandrew; nine great-grandchildren: Stella, Hollis and Tanner Monberg, Georgia and Leona Sales, Beatrice and Marlo Cobarruvias, and Sabine and Penelope Ozereko; brother-in-law, Bill Campbell (Nancy) of Hollidaysburg; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by daughters, Polly Jo Hummel and Kimmy Sager; granddaughter, Hallie Sue Vandrew; son-in-law, Dan Vandrew; sister, Janet I. Shriner; brothers, Ira R. Hummel and Richard D. Hummel; brothers-in-law, Jack Campbell and Don Campbell; and sisters-in-law, Sally Neff and Connie Araneda.
Len was a 1950 graduate of Bellwood Antis High School. He was a US Air Force Veteran of the Korean War, serving in Germany.
Len retired from Hoss’s as their Special Projects Director. He was one of the Founders of Hoss’s Family Steak and Sea House/ Marzoni’s Restaurant chain, as well as a major stockholder in Bedford Ford/Bedford Chrysler Auto Dealerships, Hoss’s Restaurants, and Cranberry Restaurant, and a partner in Comfort Inn, Duncansville and Comfort Suites, Pinecroft.
He was a member of the Jaffa Shrine, Valley of Altoona Consistory, Juniata Lodge 282 F&AM, and Potter County Anglers.
Len enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, his camp in Potter County, trout fishing, and NASCAR.
Friends will be received from 2 to 6 p.m. on Monday, February 26, 2024, at Plank, Stitt & Stevens Funeral Home, 421 Montgomery St., Hollidaysburg, where a funeral service with military honors will be held on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, at 11 a.m. with Pastor John A. Godissart officiating.
Interment will be at Alto Reste Park.
