John P. Little, 77, Hollidaysburg, passed away Monday afternoon at his residence after complications from a stroke and Parkinson’s disease.
He was born in Philipsburg, son of the late Harold and Audrey Little.
He is survived by his wife, Marie; daughter, Jessica Elam (Jason) of Haymarket, VA; son, John Chad Little (Jessica) of New Castle, CO; two granddaughters, Megan and Peyton Elam; and two brothers, Harold Little (Carol) of State College and Patrick Little (Mindy) of Philipsburg.
John graduated from Penn State University in 1974 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Recreation and Park Management. He was a Navy veteran in Vietnam, serving with the 1st Marine Air Wing in DaNang.
John served as Executive Director of Parks and Recreation Carroll County, MD, and the Executive Director of Central Blair Parks and Recreation, Altoona for 12 years and served as the Hollidaysburg Borough Manager for three years. He served on the Board of the Altoona Kiwanis Club, was a charter member of the Little Juniata River Association and was an officer of the Altoona Blair County Photo Society.
John attended St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, Hollidaysburg. He enjoyed fly fishing, Penn State football, outdoor activities, and working with Marie at their guest house, The River’s Edge, located in Spruce Creek.
Friends will be received from 3-5 p.m. on Friday, February 9, 2024 at Plank, Stitt & Stevens Funeral Home, 421 Montgomery St., Hollidaysburg
A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, February 10, 2024 at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, Hollidaysburg, with Father Alan Thomas officiating.
Inurnment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions in memory of John be made to the Central Blair Recreation Commission, 2101 5th Ave, Altoona, PA 16602 or the Hollidaysburg Borough Park Maintenance of Canal Basin and Chimney Rocks, 401 Blair Street, Hollidaysburg, PA 16648
