Jewell M. Bertolino Aug. 25, 1920 – March 5, 2022

Jewell M. Bertolino, 101, of Hollidaysburg (depicted here on her 101st birthday), passed away Saturday at UPMC Altoona. She was born in Washington, D.C., daughter of the late Russel G. and Pearl E. (Butz) Young. She married Joseph D. Bertolino on Aug. 6, 1941. He preceded her in death on April 6, 1971. Surviving are a daughter, Marcia L. Weller; a grandson, John T. Weller (Jinwen); and a great-grandson, Joseph D. Weller. She was preceded in death by a son, L. Scott Bertolino in 1966; and a brother, Kenneth J. Young in 1945. Jewell was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School, Washington, D.C. and attended Penn State University. She retired as an agent for Nationwide Insurance Co. in 1977 after 22 years of service. Jewell was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Hollidaysburg, for 65 years, where she served many years as a Sunday school teacher and was the first female member of church council, serving on the property committee and as Secretary. She was President of the Mental Health Association of Blair County, Chair of the Blair County Mental Retardation Advisory Board, President of the Ecumenical Conference of Greater Altoona and serving many years on their program of Religious Education for mentally handicapped children, member of the Home Nursing Board, President of WFBG Call for Action, member of the American Rescue Workers Board and serving as Building Fund Treasurer, Recording Secretary of Church Women United, and member of the Senior Peer Counseling program sponsored by the St. Vincent DePaul Society. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 10, 2022, at Plank, Stitt & Stevens Funeral Home, Hollidaysburg, with Pastor Zane Dempsie officiating.
