Obituary For Janet R. Laratonda

Janet Romaine McCartney Laratonda
October 1, 1930 – August 24, 2025

Janet Romaine McCartney Laratonda, 94, of Hollidaysburg, passed away peacefully at home.
She was born in Altoona, the daughter of Robert Eldon McCartney and Lillie Marie Stahl McCartney. She was previously married to Eugene Frank Laratonda Sr.
Surviving are her seven sons: “Skip” (Irina), Lonnie (Beverly), Craig (Jennifer), Lance, Brad, Brian, and Seth; a daughter, Hedy; 15 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; long-time friend, Shirley Neptune; and Arnold “Buster” Brunner, who Janet often referred to as her eighth son.
She was preceded in death by brothers, Robert and Virgil “Bud” McCartney and baby sister, Joyce McCartney.
Janet graduated from Altoona High School in 1948, and was crowned Valentine Queen of her sorority, Gamma Chi in 1969.
Janet worked as a manager in the hospitality industry.
She enjoyed spending time with family and playing cards with friends. She was an avid reader and loved doing the daily puzzles in the Altoona Mirror. She loved cats and will be missed by her beloved orange tabby, Joey.
Friends and family will be received from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at Plank, Stitt & Stevens Funeral Home, 421 Montgomery St., Hollidaysburg, where a funeral service will immediately follow at 1 p.m., with Pastor Roland Cadle, officiating.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Mending Hearts Animal Shelter, 4771 E Loop Rd. Hollidaysburg, PA 16648.
