Obituary For James David Vargo

James David Vargo
June 24, 1948 – February 16, 2025

James David Vargo, 76, formerly of Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, passed away Sunday afternoon in Naples, Florida. James, affectionately known as “Dave,” was born in Cresson, Pennsylvania, son of Joseph and Barbara Vargo. He married Barbara Lou Woodring on April 4, 1970 in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania.
Dave is survived by his daughter, Karen (Lloyd) Laudorn of California; son Bryan (Kirsten) Vargo of Georgia; sister Barbara Menichino of Illinois; brother, Karl Vargo of Florida; grandchildren: Ava and Soren Laudorn of California and Isabella and Emerson Vargo of Georgia. He was predeceased by his brothers, Thomas, John and Jerome Vargo; and by his sister, Carol Torok.
He was a graduate of Highland Hall Seminary High School in Hollidaysburg and earned an associate’s degree in Electronics & Electrical Engineering from Penn State University, Altoona campus. During the Vietnam War, Dave served in the U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. Intrepid Aircraft Carrier from 1968 to 1970. He then earned a bachelor’s degree in marketing from the University of Delaware. Dave worked as a Marketing and Regulatory Analyst for Delmarva Power & Light for 34 years. He was of the Roman Catholic Faith. Dave loved his family, and over the years, he enjoyed jokes, hiking, camping, nature, music, cars, coin collecting, coaching, but most of all, laughing with family and friends.
Family and friends will be received from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, February 21, 2025 at Plank, Stitt & Stevens Funeral Home, 421 N. Montgomery St., Hollidaysburg, PA 16648. A Funeral Mass will be held at 9 a.m. on Saturday, February 22, 2025 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 211 Powell Ave., Cresson, PA 16630. The family requests that donations be made to Carmelite Monastery, 2101 Manor Dr., Loretto, PA 15940, in memory of James David Vargo.

Condolences

    When I met Dave in 1962 he was Jim, but whether Jim or Dave, 1962 or 2025, his sense of humor and his laugh were the same. If there was a group having fun, half of the energy was coming from Dave whether the group was six or sixty. Linda reminded me that Barb's laughter, as so many other things, was a good match for Dave. We miss them both. Our prayers are with the family. Pat and Linda Singel

    Dave and I started at Highland Hall the same year. We were the largest and the most spirited class. We all worked, played, laughed, and prayed together. We were a spirted class and Dave was an important part of that.
