March 28, 1940 – June 25, 2024
Edna Loraine Neely, 84, Hollidaysburg, passed away peacefully Tuesday morning at her residence.
She was born in Roaring Spring, daughter of the late Robert Sherwood and Elizabeth Margaret (Bauer) Neely.
She is survived by two sisters, Elizabeth McGee of Hollidaysburg and Ellen Derion of Toms River, NJ; nieces and nephews: Robert McGee, Janet Calamita, Julie Holowach, Jeffrey Derion, Andrew Derion, and Steven Derion; and numerous cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Janet L. Neely and an infant brother, Robert.
Edna was a graduate of Hollidaysburg High School. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Secondary English Education and a Master of Arts in English from Penn State.
She had previously worked in the Stroehmann’s Bakery office and retired from the Altoona Area School District in 2002, where she was an English Teacher.
Edna was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Hollidaysburg, Hollidaysburg Y Auxiliary, Daughters of the American Revolution, IOTA Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma; Our Lady of The Alleghenies, Catholic Daughters, Blair County Chapter of the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees, PSEA Retired, NEA Retired, Altoona Serra Club, St Mary Guild, and the Blair County Genealogy Society.
She was also a life member of Penn State Alumni Association and an Honorary Senior State President of Children of the American Revolution
Edna enjoyed sewing, reading, writing, both oil and watercolor painting, and photography.
Friends will be received from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, June 30, 2024 at Plank, Stitt & Stevens Funeral Home, 421 Montgomery St., Hollidaysburg.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 1, 2024 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Hollidaysburg, with Father Alan Thomas officiating.
Committal will be at Greenlawn Cemetery, Hollidaysburg.
