Doris J. ‘Jo-Anne’ Giordano

Doris J. “Jo-Anne” Giordano, 97, formerly of Altoona, passed away Thursday morning at Presbyterian Village at Hollidaysburg. She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Charles and Ethel (Shellenberger) Whitehead.
She was twice married, first to John Timothy Fitzgerald who passed away in 1951, and then to Anthony J. Giordano, who preceded her in death in 1993.
She is survived by two daughters, Marsena (Giordano) Fickes (Ray) of Hollidaysburg and Sue (Fitzgerald) Sweda (Donald) of Catasauqua, Pa.; four grandchildren: Michael Gilmartin, Joshua Fickes (Julia), Anthony Fickes (Megan) and Courtney Hornung; and six great-grandsons: Michael Gilmartin (J.J.), Tyler Fickes, Reed Fickes, Ben Lubert (Jenna), Macallan Hornung and Grayson Hornung. She was also survived by special friend, Mary Clark.
She was preceded in death by her beloved grandson, Landon Tyler Fickes; and a sister, June Louise Barley.
Jo-Anne was a 1947 graduate of Altoona High School.
She was vice president of Giordano Sausage Co. and a member of St. John’s Reformed Church.
“Joey” enjoyed decorating her home, vacationing at the beach, spending time with friends and family, and helping to raise her grandchildren. Everyone that has ever known our kind and funny “Little Grandma,” has described her as “so sweet.” What a beautiful blessing she has been to us all.
Friends will be received from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, 2026, at Plank, Stitt & Stevens Funeral Home, 421 Montgomery St., Hollidaysburg, where a funeral service will immediately follow at 2 p.m. with Pastor Stewart McClelland officiating.
Interment will be at Arch Spring Cemetery.
