Cora E. Nelson, 84, Hollidaysburg, died at 6:16 a.m. Sunday, August 20, 2023, at UPMC Altoona, surrounded by family.
She was born April 27, 1939, in Coshocton, Ohio, daughter of the late Charles W. Grove and Clara M. (Snyder) Grove.
On Dec. 19, 1958, she married Glenn H. Nelson, Sr. who passed away on Sept. 16, 1989.
Mrs. Nelson is the mother of five children: Glenn H. Nelson, Jr. (Robin Blair) of Hollidaysburg, Garret B. Nelson (Gail) of Apex, NC, Galen J. Nelson (Marguerite) of Portage, Charlene R. Norris (Matt) of Glenville, and Carla K. Meyer (Geoff) of Gibsonia. She has eight grandchildren: Monica E. Kaule (Nate), Galen J. Nelson Jr, Erin L. Nobles (Tom), Ian M. Norris, Leah M. Nelson, Aidan G. Meyer, Nicole M. Norris, and Addison E. Meyer. She also has five great-grandchildren: Ada E. Kaule, Nora L. Nobles, Finn D. Albright, June K. Albright, and Nash S. Albright.
Mrs. Nelson has two surviving siblings, Philip E. Grove and Sallie M. Sinkovitz and was preceded in death by three siblings: John W. Grove, James W. Grove, and Marian P. Campbell.
Mrs. Nelson was a dedicated member of the 1st Presbyterian Church of Altoona which later merged to become the Providence Presbyterian Church of Altoona. She was also a member of the 11&7 Rod and Gun Club Auxiliary. She, along with Penny Knisely, coordinated the Annual Snyder Family Reunion. She was also a long-time participant in her ladies pinochle card club.
Mrs. Nelson was a 1957 graduate of Hollidaysburg Area High School. She retired from the Allegheny Lutheran Home as a dietary manager in 2010 where she truly enjoyed her work with the residents. She was proud to have attended Penn State University later in life where she earned her Dietary Management Certification.
Mrs. Nelson enjoyed camping at Black Moshannon State Park, family beach trips to the Outer Banks, keeping an eye on her flowers, and watching the wildlife in her yard.
She was a devoted Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, sister, aunt, and cousin. Family meant everything to her.
Friends will be received from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, August 24, 2023, at Plank, Stitt & Stevens Funeral Home, 421 Montgomery St., Hollidaysburg and from 10-11 a.m. on Friday, August 25, 2023, at Providence Presbyterian Church, Altoona, where a funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. with Pastor Dennis Braun officiating.
The family requests that donations in memory of Cora, be made to Providence Presbyterian Church, 2401 Broad Ave, Altoona, PA 16601.
Interment will be at Fruit Hill Cemetery, New Millport, PA.
