Charlotte Ann Schaffer
April 7, 1933 – May 20, 2023
Charlotte Ann Schaffer, 90, Hollidaysburg, passed away Saturday, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Jersey City, N.J., the only child of the late Caesar and Elda (D’Emma) Giannini. On Sept. 5, 1953, Charlotte married Edward M. Schaffer Sr. at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Maywood, N.J. He preceded her in death on March 4, 1993.
Surviving are her children: Theresa (Dave) Zlotnicki of Oil City, Mark (Kathy) Schaffer of Holly Springs, N.C., Carol Ann (Steve) Dillen of Hollidaysburg, with whom she resided and Marie (Andy) Findlan of Franklin; eight grandchildren: Alyssa and David II Zlotnicki, Jared, Joshua, Jeremy, Jonathan and Rachel Schaffer and Joseph Edward Findlan; and cherished family members: Beverly (Vic) Morosa, Bobby (Tammy) Collins Jr. and daughter Ashleigh, Stephanie Salters and son Donovan, the Rev. Gregory D’Emma, Roberta D'Emma and daughter, Christina and Chip Amatuccio-Herbert. She is also survived by a special lifelong friend, Carol Bowser.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Edward M. Schaffer Jr.; her sister-in-law, Dorothy (Joseph) Klein; cherished family members, Bob Collins Sr., Darrell Salters, Richard Callori and many other aunts, uncles and cousins. She was also preceded in death by a special friend, Geraldine Tushim.
She was a 1950 graduate of Holy Trinity High School, Hackensack N.J., and a 1952 graduate of Donovan Business School. She was employed as a secretary for the Grand Union Company, New York City. Throughout her life, Charlotte was an active member in various Catholic parishes. She was a founding member of Catholic Daughters of America, Court St. Rita Star of the Sea, St. Bernadette Parish, Parlin, N.J., where she served as regent. She also held memberships in the Altar Rosary Society, the Legion of Mary and the Lady's Guild. She was a member of St Mary Parish, Hollidaysburg for the past 50 years.
Charlotte spent many years as a homemaker. While raising her family she was very active in school events and fundraisers. She also coached her daughters’ softball teams. After her youngest started school full time, she went to work as a CNA at the Presbyterian Home in Hollidaysburg where she worked for 30 years, retiring in 2004.
She enjoyed reading, traveling, camping, and many hours boating at Raystown Lake with her family and friends.
Friends will be received from 10 a.m. until noon Saturday, May 27, 2023, at Plank, Stitt and Stevens Funeral Home, 421 N. Montgomery St., Hollidaysburg. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, May 27, 2023, at St. Mary Catholic Church, 312 Clark St., Hollidaysburg, with the Very Rev. Alan Thomas presiding. Committal will be held at Alto-Reste Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Mary Catholic Church, Hollidaysburg.
