Obituary For Betty Jean Gill

Betty Jean Gill Dec. 6, 1939 – Feb. 19, 2022

Betty Jean Gill, 82, Hollidaysburg, passed away Saturday evening at UPMC Altoona after a brief illness. She was born in Hollidaysburg, daughter of the late William Henry and Nora Catherine (Maddocks) Webb. On August 21, 1958, she married George Joseph Gill Sr. in Hollidaysburg. He preceded her in death on October 7, 2014. She is survived by six children: George J. Jr. of Hollidaysburg, Gregg Allen (Michele) of South Carolina, Gary Lee (Sherri) of Claysburg, Cheryl Ann Roeder of Florida, Sharon Lynn Tatsch (Joe) of Madera, and Sheila Sue Hainsey (Kelly) of Bellwood; 18 grandchildren; and many great and great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three sisters: Virginia Brown, Rosabelle and Rachael; a daughter-in-law, Lisa; and a grandson, Joshua Detwiler. Betty was a graduate of Hollidaysburg High School and the Altoona School of Commerce. She retired as a public assistance specialist. She was a former member of Hollidaysburg First Church of God. Betty loved her family and enjoyed gospel music and art. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 pm on Thursday, February 24, 2022 at Plank, Stitt & Stevens Funeral Home, 421 Montgomery St., Hollidaysburg, where a funeral service will be held on Friday, February 25, 2022 at 11 a.m., Pastor Matthew Hornberger, officiating. Interment will be in Blair Memorial Park. The family requests that donations in memory of Betty, be made to the charity of your choice.
