Obituary For Alma Marie Stewart

Alma Marie Stewart
Oct. 6, 1926 – June 24, 2023

Alma Marie Stewart, 96, of Greeneville, TN, formerly of Altoona, passed away Saturday, June 24, 2023, at Greeneville Community Hospital.
She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late John Melvin and Mary (Kurtz) Shoemaker.
Alma is survived by a sister, Sara Hileman, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Shoemaker; a sister, Helen Kapp; and a nephew, Mark Hileman.
Alma was a graduate of Altoona High School. She received a Doctor of Religious Education in New Testament Greek from Manahath School of Theology.
Alma was a Missionary in the Philippines until 1956 and retired in 1981 as an engineer for Bell Telephone.
Alma read books and sermons onto cassettes for the blind, volunteered in publications for AMG Inc. and on the editorial staff of Hebrew-Greek Key Word Study Bible, and wrote the book, “Words of Strength and Beauty” which is being used as a textbook in Bible Schools in the Philippines.
Friends will be received from 1p.m. until the 2 p.m. funeral service on Saturday, July 8, 2023, at Plank, Stitt & Stevens Funeral Home, 421 Montgomery St., Hollidaysburg, with Pastor Carl Wolfe officiating.
Interment will be at Alto Reste Park.

    I became acquainted with Alma through her niece and her husband, Rene & Dan Enright when she came to live with her and Dan in Tennessee. She was a delight to know.
